Sacred City: Trio is a multilayer, dance-theatre work dedicated to and inspired by three San Francisco artists – Saxophonist and Composer Roberto de Haven (1954 -2013), Poet and Activist Al Robles (1930-2009) and Performer and Choreographer Ed Mock (1938 -1986); Trio pays homage to each of these cultural icons with emphasis on their life- long devotion to a radically inclusive community vision while working against the grain of mainstream culture. Trio is part of a five-year cycle of work imagined by ubungen as “Sacred City”. This first performance sources poetry, music and movement created by each of these artists as lively accompaniment and evidence of the creative power each of these enigmatic individuals. Trio gives shape to the ephemeral sense of “place” that ubungen argues is the sacredness of San Francisco.
